The year’s historic presidential election for many of us signals renewed hope and positive change for our country. While I’m excited about the possibilities for America and especially for big cities throughout the country, we also know that Detroit will not see the benefits of President-Elect Obama’s domestic agenda for at least two or maybe three years.
Because of this, we know the next mayor of Detroit must have the right kind of experience to create real solutions that will address the myriad of critical issues facing the City, such as a projected $150 million budget deficit, rising crime, poor delivery of basic city services, the unprecedented foreclosure crisis and, of course, restoring a badly bruised national image.
I am running for Mayor in the upcoming special election because Detroit and our region can’t wait until 2010 to begin tackling these very difficult problems. I believe that my nearly 30 years of experience has uniquely prepared me to immediately begin taking on these challenges and that is why I am seeking your financial support in the special primary election scheduled for February 24, 2009. I hope you’ll join with me.
Together I know that we can make Detroit a city we can be proud of once again.
